Alright, get out your thank you cards because I’m about to give you a super treat. I warn you, if you are hungry it may not be a good time to read this. It is all my favorite foods I eat on the regular.
I am excited to write this blog post because this is the most popular question I get asked on the daily. WHAT do you eat? Do you count calories, macros, etc? (Gosh no, I have no time or want to do that.) However, macros are a great way for someone to start to learn and realize what food is and what exactly you are putting in your body. Could be a great place for you to start. It’s important to understand and learn what food does and how it impacts YOUR body. Every BODY is different. What I do has been a lifelong process of the last 15 years of learning about REAL food and how processed food can and does impact the way you feel and how your body reacts to it. From my learning experience I have adopted the lifestyle of eating as REAL food as possible….and I get real creative with it.
If you have been following me around for any amount of time you know I love me some good tasty healthy food but I don’t like to spend time in the kitchen. This mama doesn’t want one more dish to wash right now. So I try and not create more messes. But honestly, if you are making real food, you’re going to have messes.
I don’t follow any specific nutrition intake method (ie, vegan, keto, dairy free, low carb, low fat, gluten free, macro counting.) I started learning about nutrition and eating healthy when I started to fall in love with fitness and health back in my early 20’s. I never competed in any formal fitness shows besides the Hawaiian Tropic Swimsuit Pageants and Ms. USA pageant system. I love food too much to restrict. One thing I did was learn to train my tastebuds to crave healthier foods. It has been a twenty year process to learn healthy food choices and love them. I’m still constantly learning from others.
So with this, this is what I eat in a common day to day routine. I will also share supplements I put in my body as well. From this, I hope you get inspired and motivated to live your healthiest and most fabulous life!
I add a high quality probiotic first thing in the morning as well with my Energy.
I also like to take collagen and or biotin for hair growth and other protein support. I have noticed a huge difference in taking a biotin supplement for my hair loss from having babies. I’ve been taking this one.
I also have a great water bottle that helps me get water in me through the day. So do my kids. They drink water and just water. We call it God’s juice. I believe most other common drinks don’t do anything but put unnecessary sugar in the body. I’d rather eat my sugar with other things. When you start cutting out unnecessary drinks you will see you feel better and look better.
I rarely drink anything else besides a protein shake. If I do it’s some sort of green juice or carrot juice.
I always drink a protein shake/smoothie in the day as well. Usually after my morning workout. I almost always workout in the morning time. Stay tuned for my Smoothie Habit E book being released later this year. I put all sorts of things in my smoothies.
While drinking my protein shake I take my Juice Plus capsule. It’s simply fruits and veggies and omegas all in capsules. I have been trying these for a year and a half now. This is a new addition to my nutrition and I’m seeing how it supports my family and my health.
Common food I eat in a day.
Eggs! I love anything with eggs. I usually eat something like Ezekiel Protein Sandwich. This is a super quick, protein loaded tasty meal. Loaded with turkey bacon, goat cheese, scrambled eggs and toasted cinnamon raisin Ezikiel bread. I try and stay away from dairy because it can be inflammatory. I love cheese so that’s one of my weaknesses. Goat cheese is a better choice so I tend to choose that.
Or a quinoa skillet below. Check out my recipes here for that. You’ll thank me!
I also love a “breakfast tortilla” like below here. This one has a toasted Ezekiel tortilla with egg white, basil, tomato, avocado, red onion, basil vinagerette.
I almost always eat some sort of kale salad with salmon or chicken. This is the “Vangie meal” that I never get tired of.
I love a kale salad with lemon juice, olive oil and garlic with manchango cheese or asiago shredded cheese, salmon, dried cherries or currants, smoked chopped almonds.
Another thing I eat on the regular is homemade hummus. You can see my favorite recipe here with lightly roasted veggies and some sort of cracker or pita chip.
I love me some sushi! If I eat sushi I don’t like all the sauces. I do like a little ponzu with it but I don’t drench it in it. I love sushi burritos.
Or I also love getting Poke Bowls when I eat out too
I also make my own delicious sushi creations too like this one.
I always have fresh fruit in the house as well. I thought I’d try something new as I like to do, but I really can’t get into Papaya. Can you? It smells like stinky feet and has little flavor. LOL Maybe I’m not getting good ones.
I also love protein pancakes. Like below. I make these at least once a week in different variations Get recipe here.
With the fresh fruit I also like to make smoothie bowls. This usually replaces a protein shake if I have one. You can make these a full meal and load them up or keep it light.
I almost always have something sweet. Like a protein ball or protein treat. See my favorite ball recipe here. I love protein sweets. Donuts, balls, muffins etc.
One of my new favorite treats is made my Truvani and I love it for when I want that chocolate craving but am not going to dive into the chocolate brownie. It is the Only Bar. You can get yours here. It has the texture of a brownie without all the processed sugar. Check it out. You won’t be mad I told you about it..or will you? LOL Made with dates, maple syrup, almonds, cacao, cacao nibs, and sea salt.
As far as snacks, If at home, I try and keep snacks all fresh and real food and the packaged processed food for on the go,
I try and eat as much “real food” as possible with high protein to keep energy going and build muscle.
Here are some of my favorite go to protein ideas:
Nut Butter, Turkey Bacon, eggs, fish, kale, nuts, tunafish, protein treats, protein shake and chicken. I love love nuts and seeds (hemp, chia and flax.) I don’t do much red meat. I’ll eat it and enjoy it, but I rarely buy it.
Some of my favorite healthy fats:
Avocado, nut butters, coconut oil, olive oil and omega’s like fish oil and flax seeds.
That’s pretty much my ideal day in eating. There are those days you’ll see my thoroughly enjoy Talenti Gelato, cookies from Crumbl, cheesecake or a good tasty pizza.
I don’t deprive myself of my favorite indulgences. However, I don’t eat those every week, I eat super clean and healthy 85% of the time. I encourage you to start making baby swaps for example, pita chips instead of Doritos, coconut milk ice cream made with a banana instead of ice cream, or a protein treat instead of a cookie.
Or one of my fav’s.. grilled peaches with coconut whip cream and coconut nectar drizzled over the top and fresh basil or mint.
This is how I started the process of eating healthy. I dropped the cereal in the morning and drank a vitamin energy drink and protein shake and the rest has been a slow process of learning.
