One of my favorite meals is fresh homemade hummus with lots of lemon and garlic and a variety of dipping “utensils.”
I have a hard time buying store bought hummus because homemade is so delicious. I like my hummus more on the runnier side and store bought is always thicker. So here are a few tricks I do to make it super delicious.
I use 1 can of chickpeas but I also put in some of the liquid from the can. Also use fresh minced garlic not in a jar. Huge difference.
I love to doctor up my hummus in all kinds of ways. I love flavor. In this photo I have my basic hummus recipe and topped it with lemon pepper and Cotja cheese, with cilantro and a side of bell peppers for dipping with olives and pine nuts.
As far as what to dip in it. I love all kinds of fresh veggies but I also like to grill some too so they are just a little grilled/roasted and then dip them. Asparagus , cauliflower and broccoli are my favorite for grilling/roasting.
I also love some sort of cracker crunch like pita chips or pretzels. My favorite is to make some “pita chips” out of Ezekiel tortillas. Just cut them up and spray olive oil on them with sea salt, smoked paprika and put them in the oven for 12 min then turn for another 10 min. Super delicious.
I make this all the time and it’s a tasty way to get some protein and veggies in you.
