20 Ways to Practice Self Care

As September is rolling along I realize it is National Self Care month! I am all about self care. When I was in graduate school one of the most important components of my counseling program was self care. They taught us if you don’t take care of yourself how on earth are you going to care for and serve others. So with that, I have adopted a great lifestyle of self care.

Self care looks different to everyone and on different days. Some days it may be being alone for a whole day going to a spa. Another day it may look like taking a shower and that’s it! Or going grocery shopping ALONE…without kids.

I know I am a better women when I take care of myself. When I speak kindly to myself and when I make sure I rest when I need to.

Sometimes just “being” by yourself is so rejuvinating just being.

Here are 20 ways to practice self care:

Spending time with those girlfriends in your life who just love you and you love right back. Or just give her a call. Sometimes I have to schedule my calls with my girlfriend to connect.

Doing your nails or getting them done.

Washing, drying and styling your hair. (You can tell I’m a mom of 3)

Going to therapy (We all need it at some point in our lives)

Following through on your workouts and making them a priority.

Cooking YOUR favorite meal.

Reading a book

Get creative and make something.

Spend that extra few minutes just being in a moment of reflection.

Speaking positive affirmations to yourself.

Take time to do a facial with a mask.

Sleep in! Take a nap. Make it happen,. get some rest! Figure out a way to do it.

Take a break from social media if you know it’s not helping you.

Relax by doing something you don’t normally do. Maybe watch a feel good chick flick instead of do some work.

Buy yourself a new activewear outfit to help you get motivated to work out.

Journal: This is something I don’t always do but used to before 3 kiddos. I try and journal at least once a day in my one sentence mom happiness journal. You can get one here.

Say “NO” more to things you know you should say no to.

Get out of a routine for a day to relax and not be on the go. Mix up your routine. I find when I’m doing the same thing over and over I get stagnant and irritable.

Sitting down and eating a meal without getting up

Taking that girls trip

Putting on extra lashes because you know you will feel better

Take that personal development course/seminar

Go on a date night

Drive the long way home so you have a couple extra minutes to yourself

Whatever you do, I hope you find your fabulous along the way!
