I recently went to Dallas to celebrate a new beginning in our lives. My husband retired from the Air Force a year ago and we have been in crazy life transition between moving in Phoenix 3 times in 9 months as we were waiting for our home to be built in Charlotte. With the transition, we’ve experienced it like a deployment. He got a new job where he was gone for 4 months just for training and then gone 17 days out of every month. Needless to say, that wasn’t going to work for mental health so he made a change and got hired with American Airlines. We’ve learned that we do have to trust God in all the timing; however, it’s also important to take inventory of all that is at stake and do what’s best for all involved.
I grew up as a pilots daughter so It is interesting the way I married one. When you actually travel as a family of an employee you fly as a “non rev”/standby passenger and are basically waiting for a seat and if there is one you get on, if not, you smile and say “ok, I”ll wait.” I did this growing up and it is one way I learned resiliency and patience. I remember one time when I was a junior in high school when I almost didn’t get on a flight which would mean I would have had to sleep in the airport all night by myself. The hard is how you get the grit and the grit is what makes you fabulous!
Grit is what makes you push through to become better. One time when I was flying home from Korea from seeing my husband it was a 2 day trip home and I ended up being in Phoenix for the night in the airport. I just sat in a chair and waited all night til the next morning. I never once even thought about looking for the easy way out. I totally forgot there was a USO I could have probably slept in (not sure if it was open.) Learn to naturally embrace the hard to become a champion. Someone who doesn’t whine and complain when things don’t go smoothly.
One of the ways I practice mindset training is reading/listening to new content/books. The most recent book I recommend is this one.
Chasing Excellence by Ben Bergeron
It’s all about what it takes to train the world’s fittest athletes. The Cross Fit Champions. There are so many great words in here and it’s mostly teaches about what’s going on in between your head determines your success. If you’re looking for a new read on mindset and becoming just a little better every day check it out.
One of my new favorite things I found is this yoga mat. I love a good hot sweaty heated yoga class. My favorite studio in Phoenix is True Hot yoga. Currently in Charlotte I teach a class I’ve fallen in love with called Warrior Sculpt. It’s a little yoga, little cardio and lots of sculpting at LIfe Time Athletic. If you are in a hot room doing yoga you really need a towel down on your mat. Well, with this mat you don’t! It’s so weird. It’s some vegan mat that is not slippery and the sweat absorbs or something. Even better, the sweatier it gets, the more grippy it is. I don’t know anything technical about it but I know it works and if you’re looking for a good yoga mat I found this at Target. You can check out my reel on Instagram on it here.
Hope this helps you Find Your Fabulous!
